Behind any great idea, dream or project there must be a reason, a cause, a meaning. Lyctus was born because men who wanted to look attractive and comfortable, yet classy, could not find any swimwear that was suitable for that purpose.
Inpired in the greek mithology and its gods, with a strong commitment with the environment and the need to give back to the community, Lyctus is more than a brand… it is a lifestyle.
Our products are handmade in small productions, using recycled fabrics, with an unique design and paying attention to the small details. Our packaging is eco-friendly, compostable and also aligned with our ethic and mission.
Each collection will bring new gods (lines) which will represent a specific color related to that god.
Lyctus was one of the main cities of Crete, the largest island of Greece. There, Zeus was born and helped his brothers and sisters to be reborn. That was the beginning of the olympian gods, and that was the reason why we chose Lyctus as our brand name to start this journey.
Previously, Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades and Poseidon were born, but Cronos swallowed them as soon as he heard the news, thus trying to avoid the prophecy that he would be dethroned by one of his children, just as he himself did with his father.
But this time, when she was about to give birth to her sixth child, Rhea took refuge on the island of Crete and that is where Zeus was born. As it was inevitable that Cronos would find them, Rhea hid her son in a cave on Mount Ida in the city of Lyctus and wrapped a stone in Zeus diapers, which Cronos swallowed.
Zeus was raised by some shepherds and years later, he would come out of the cave to fulfill the prophecy. He used a substance given to him by Gaia to force Cronus to disgorge the contents of his stomach, and that is how his brothers and sisters were finally set free and “reborn”. Zeus will be forever remember as Father of the gods for this act.
